Better leaders. Better firms. Better lives.

Leading Yourself™

Before you can lead clients, coworkers, teams, or a whole firm—you have to lead the one person you’re with 24/7: yourself. This workbook builds self-leadership through intentional practice, reflection, and real-work application.

  • Build trust by becoming the person others can count on.
  • Strengthen habits, focus, emotional self-control, and follow-through.
  • Increase your influence—regardless of title (leadership is behavior, not position).
  • Grow through action, not just information.
Designed for real professional-service environments: deadlines, busy seasons, and client demands.

What makes this workbook work

Awareness doesn’t create change. This workbook is built around evaluated practice: choose one skill → practice on real work → reflect → get feedback → repeat.

  • Proficiency assessments + growth-plan prep prompts
  • Observation worksheets + structured reflections
  • Daily / weekly / monthly practice check-ins
Leadership is not a personality type or a title. It’s a set of skills and behaviors you can build intentionally.

How the Workbook Works

Leadership isn’t learned by reading alone. You grow by doing. This workbook guides you through a repeatable cycle you can apply inside real work: assess → plan → practice → evaluate → repeat at a higher level.

Step 1

Assess one skill

Rate yourself with a proficiency assessment and choose one self-leadership skill to focus on next.

Step 2

Build your growth plan

Clarify your “why,” choose targeted learning (read/watch/listen), and identify real situations where you’ll practice.

Step 3

Practice on live work

Use daily/weekly/monthly practice prompts so leadership becomes habit—not a theory you forget in busy season.

Step 4

Evaluate + repeat

Reflect, get feedback, adjust behavior, and repeat the cycle at higher levels of responsibility over time.

Case Study
Sales performance — self-management training produced sustained performance gains
In a control-group field experiment with insurance salespeople, one group received self-management training (goal setting, self-monitoring, and self-regulation skills). Compared to the control group, the trained group showed significant improvements in job performance using both objective and subjective measures—and the gains were sustained for 12 months. This shows self-discipline skills can be trained and translate into measurable business outcomes.

Case Study
Team leadership — leader self-regulation training improved team results
A longitudinal field experiment assigned leaders of small teams to either a self-regulation intervention (run by a coach) or a control condition while teams completed a multi-week business strategy simulation. Leaders who received the intervention earned higher follower ratings of leader effectiveness, and their teams achieved higher financial performance and higher final team grades than controls. This supports the idea that leaders who can manage themselves (focus, emotion, follow-through) create better team execution.
